We Are Not a People Without Hope

Today I stopped to visit an old friend who shared with me how a co-worker of his is going through some cancer issues. He had never experienced being close to someone who was going through such a difficult trial.

Having driven this friend to the hospital to get Cancer treatments and watching her go through so much, he admitted that he was feeling depressed.

I sat down beside him and explained that as a minister, I find myself surrounded by the reality of dying and death all the time.

I told him that these things are reminders that we are not here on this earth forever. It’s only depressing to us when we can’t embrace that.

The amazing truth is that as believers in Christ, we are being prepared to step out of this world and into eternity. This is our great hope that one day we will be free of the constraints of this earthen shell. When we leave this world we will be suddenly immersed in the height, width, length and depth of the love of God.

Rejoice today because this is what we were created for before the foundation of the world!

For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.
